RSV 1 A Prayer of David. Incline thy ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. NIV 1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. RSV 2 Preserve my life, for I am godly; save thy servant who trusts in thee. Thou art my God; NIV 2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. RSV 3 be gracious to me, O Lord, for to thee do I cry all the day. NIV 3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. RSV 4 Gladden the soul of thy servant, for to thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. NIV 4 Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. RSV 5 For thou, O Lord, art good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on thee. NIV 5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. RSV 6 Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; hearken to my cry of supplication. NIV 6 Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. RSV 7 In the day of my trouble I call on thee, for thou dost answer me. NIV 7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me. RSV 8 There is none like thee among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like thine. NIV 8 Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. RSV 9 All the nations thou hast made shall come and bow down before thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy name. NIV 9 All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. RSV 10 For thou art great and doest wondrous things, thou alone art God. NIV 10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God. RSV 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, that I may walk in thy truth; unite my heart to fear thy name. NIV 11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. RSV 12 I give thanks to thee, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify thy name for ever. NIV 12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. RSV 13 For great is thy steadfast love toward me; thou hast delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol. NIV 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave. RSV 14 O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seek my life, and they do not set thee before them. NIV 14 The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life-- men without regard for you. RSV 15 But thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. NIV 15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. RSV 16 Turn to me and take pity on me; give thy strength to thy servant, and save the son of thy handmaid. NIV 16 Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant. RSV 17 Show me a sign of thy favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because thou, LORD, hast helped me and comforted me. NIV 17 Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
