Psalm 88

MSG 1 God, you're my last chance of the day. I spend the night on my knees before you. NIV 1 O LORD, the God who saves me, day and night I cry out before you. MSG 2 Put me on your salvation agenda; take notes on the trouble I'm in. NIV 2 May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. MSG 3 I've had my fill of trouble; I'm camped on the edge of hell. NIV 3 For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. MSG 4 I'm written off as a lost cause, one more statistic, a hopeless case. NIV 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. MSG 5 Abandoned as already dead, one more body in a stack of corpses, And not so much as a gravestone - I'm a black hole in oblivion. NIV 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. MSG 6 You've dropped me into a bottomless pit, sunk me in a pitch-black abyss. NIV 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. MSG 7 I'm battered senseless by your rage, relentlessly pounded by your waves of anger. NIV 7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. "Selah" MSG 8 You turned my friends against me, made me horrible to them. I'm caught in a maze and can't find my way out, NIV 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; MSG 9 blinded by tears of pain and frustration. I call to you, God; all day I call. I wring my hands, I plead for help. NIV 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. MSG 10 Are the dead a live audience for your miracles? Do ghosts ever join the choirs that praise you? NIV 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? "Selah" MSG 11 Does your love make any difference in a graveyard? Is your faithful presence noticed in the corridors of hell? NIV 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? MSG 12 Are your marvelous wonders ever seen in the dark, your righteous ways noticed in the Land of No Memory? NIV 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? MSG 13 I'm standing my ground, God, shouting for help, at my prayers every morning, on my knees each daybreak. NIV 13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. MSG 14 Why, God, do you turn a deaf ear? Why do you make yourself scarce? NIV 14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? MSG 15 For as long as I remember I've been hurting; I've taken the worst you can hand out, and I've had it. NIV 15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair. MSG 16 Your wildfire anger has blazed through my life; I'm bleeding, black and blue. NIV 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. MSG 17 You've attacked me fiercely from every side, raining down blows till I'm nearly dead. NIV 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. MSG 18 You made lover and neighbor alike dump me; the only friend I have left is Darkness. NIV 18 You have taken my companions and loved ones from me; the darkness is my closest friend.
