Psalm 89

NIRV 1 Lord, I will sing about your great love forever. For all time to come, I will tell how faithful you are. NIV 1 I will sing of the LORD's great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. NIRV 2 I will tell everyone that your love stands firm forever. I will tell them that you are always faithful, even in heaven itself. NIV 2 I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself. NIRV 3 You said, "Here is the covenant I have made with my chosen one. Here is the promise I have made to my servant David. NIV 3 You said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, NIRV 4 'I will make your family line continue forever. I will make your kingdom secure for all time to come.' " "Selah" NIV 4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.' " "Selah" NIRV 5 Lord, the heavens praise you for your miracles. When your holy angels gather together, they praise you for how faithful you are. NIV 5 The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. NIRV 6 Who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who among the angels is like the Lord? NIV 6 For who in the skies above can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the heavenly beings? NIRV 7 God is highly respected among his holy angels. He's more wonderful than all those who are around him. NIV 7 In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him. NIRV 8 LORD God who rules over all, who is like you? Lord, you are mighty. You are faithful in everything you do. NIV 8 O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you. NIRV 9 You rule over the stormy sea. When its waves rise up, you calm them down. NIV 9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. NIRV 10 You crushed Egypt and killed her people. With your powerful arm you scattered your enemies. NIV 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. NIRV 11 The heavens belong to you. The earth is yours also. You made the world and everything that is in it. NIV 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. NIRV 12 You created everything from north to south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon sing to you with joy. NIV 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. NIRV 13 Your arm is powerful. Your hand is strong. Your right hand is mighty. NIV 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. NIRV 14 Your kingdom is built on what is right and fair. Your truth and faithful love lead the way in front of you. NIV 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you. NIRV 15 Blessed are those who have learned to shout praise to you. Lord, they live in the light of your favor. NIV 15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. NIRV 16 All day long they are full of joy because of who you are. They praise you because you do what is right. NIV 16 They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness. NIRV 17 You are their glory. You give them strength. You favor them by honoring our king. NIV 17 For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn. NIRV 18 Our king is like a shield that keeps us safe. He belongs to the Lord. He belongs to the Holy One of Israel. NIV 18 Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. NIRV 19 You once spoke to your faithful people in a vision. You said, "I have given strength to a soldier. I have raised up a young man from among the people. NIV 19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. NIRV 20 I have found my servant David. I have poured my sacred oil on his head. NIV 20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. NIRV 21 My powerful hand will keep him going. My mighty arm will give him strength. NIV 21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. NIRV 22 No enemies will require him to bring gifts to them. No evil person will beat him down. NIV 22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. NIRV 23 I will crush the king's enemies. I will completely destroy them. NIV 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. NIRV 24 I will love him and be faithful to him. Because of me his power will increase. NIV 24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. NIRV 25 I will give him a great kingdom. It will reach from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River. NIV 25 I will set his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers. NIRV 26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father. You are my God. You are my Rock and Savior.' NIV 26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.' NIRV 27 I will also make him my oldest son. Among all the kings of the earth, he will be the most important one. NIV 27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of the earth. NIRV 28 I will continue to love him forever. I will never break my covenant with him. NIV 28 I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. NIRV 29 I will make his family line continue forever. His kingdom will last as long as the heavens. NIV 29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure. NIRV 30 "What if his sons turn away from my laws and do not follow them? NIV 30 "If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, NIRV 31 What if they disobey my orders and fail to keep my commands? NIV 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, NIRV 32 Then I will punish them for their sins. I will strike them with the rod. I will whip them for their evil acts. NIV 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; NIRV 33 But I will not stop loving David. I will always be faithful to him. NIV 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. NIRV 34 I will not break my covenant. I will not go back on my word. NIV 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. NIRV 35 Once and for all, I have made a promise with an oath. It is based on my holiness. And I will not lie to David. NIV 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness-- and I will not lie to David-- NIRV 36 His family line will continue forever. His kingdom will last as long as the sun. NIV 36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; NIRV 37 It will last forever like the moon, that faithful witness in the sky." "Selah" NIV 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky." "Selah" NIRV 38 But you have turned your back on your anointed king. You have been very angry with him. NIV 38 But you have rejected, you have spurned, you have been very angry with your anointed one. NIRV 39 You have broken the covenant you made with him. You have thrown your servant's crown into the dirt. NIV 39 You have renounced the covenant with your servant and have defiled his crown in the dust. NIRV 40 You have broken through the walls around his city. You have completely destroyed his secure places. NIV 40 You have broken through all his walls and reduced his strongholds to ruins. NIRV 41 All those who pass by have carried off what belonged to him. His neighbors make fun of him. NIV 41 All who pass by have plundered him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. NIRV 42 You have made his enemies strong. You have made all of them happy. NIV 42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. NIRV 43 You have made his sword useless. You have not helped him in battle. NIV 43 You have turned back the edge of his sword and have not supported him in battle. NIRV 44 You have put an end to his glory. You have knocked his throne to the ground. NIV 44 You have put an end to his splendor and cast his throne to the ground. NIRV 45 You have cut short the days of his life. You have covered him with shame. "Selah" NIV 45 You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with a mantle of shame. "Selah" NIRV 46 Lord, how long will you hide yourself? Will it be forever? How long will your anger burn like fire? NIV 46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? NIRV 47 Remember how short my life is. You have created all people for such a useless purpose! NIV 47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men! NIRV 48 What man can live and not die? Who can escape the power of the grave? "Selah" NIV 48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave ? "Selah" NIRV 49 Lord, where is the great love you used to have? You faithfully promised it to David. NIV 49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? NIRV 50 Lord, remember how my enemies have made fun of me. I've had to put up with mean words from all of the nations. NIV 50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, NIRV 51 Lord, your enemies have said mean things. They have laughed at everything your anointed king has done. NIV 51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.
