Psalm 90

CJB 1 A prayer of Moshe the man of God: Adonai, you have been our dwelling place in every generation. NIV 1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. CJB 2 Before the mountains were born, before you had formed the earth and the world, from eternity past to eternity future you are God. NIV 2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. CJB 3 You bring frail mortals to the point of being crushed, then say, "People, repent!" NIV 3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men." CJB 4 For from your viewpoint a thousand years are merely like yesterday or a night watch. NIV 4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. CJB 5 When you sweep them away, they become like sleep; by morning they are like growing grass, NIV 5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death; they are like the new grass of the morning-- CJB 6 growing and flowering in the morning, but by evening cut down and dried up. NIV 6 though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered. CJB 7 For we are destroyed by your anger, overwhelmed by your wrath. NIV 7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation. CJB 8 You have placed our faults before you, our secret sins in the full light of your presence. NIV 8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. CJB 9 All our days ebb away under your wrath; our years die away like a sigh. NIV 9 All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan. CJB 10 The span of our life is seventy years, or if we are strong, eighty; yet at best it is toil and sorrow, over in a moment, and then we are gone. NIV 10 The length of our days is seventy years-- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. CJB 11 Who grasps the power of your anger and wrath to the degree that the fear due you should inspire? NIV 11 Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you. CJB 12 So teach us to count our days, so that we will become wise. NIV 12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. CJB 13 Return, ADONAI! How long must it go on? Take pity on your servants! NIV 13 Relent, O LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants. CJB 14 Fill us at daybreak with your love, so that we can sing for joy as long as we live. NIV 14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. CJB 15 Let our joy last as long as the time you made us suffer, for as many years as we experienced trouble. NIV 15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. CJB 16 Show your deeds to your servants and your glory to their children. NIV 16 May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. CJB 17 May the favor of Adonai our God be on us, prosper for us all the work that we do -yes, prosper the work that we do. NIV 17 May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us-- yes, establish the work of our hands.
