Romans 12

BBE 1 For this reason I make request to you, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you will give your bodies as a living offering, holy, pleasing to God, which is the worship it is right for you to give him. NIV 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. BBE 2 And let not your behaviour be like that of this world, but be changed and made new in mind, so that by experience you may have knowledge of the good and pleasing and complete purpose of God. NIV 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. BBE 3 But I say to every one of you, through the grace given to me, not to have an over-high opinion of himself, but to have wise thoughts, as God has given to every one a measure of faith. NIV 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. BBE 4 For, as we have a number of parts in one body, but all the parts have not the same use, NIV 4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, BBE 5 So we, though we are a number of persons, are one body in Christ, and are dependent on one another; NIV 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. BBE 6 And having different qualities by reason of the grace given to us, such as the quality of a prophet, let it be made use of in relation to the measure of our faith; NIV 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. BBE 7 Or the position of a Deacon of the church, let a man give himself to it; or he who has the power of teaching, let him make use of it; NIV 7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; BBE 8 He who has the power of comforting, let him do so; he who gives, let him give freely; he who has the power of ruling, let him do it with a serious mind; he who has mercy on others, let it be with joy. NIV 8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. BBE 9 Let love be without deceit. Be haters of what is evil; keep your minds fixed on what is good. NIV 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. BBE 10 Be kind to one another with a brother's love, putting others before yourselves in honour; NIV 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. BBE 11 Be not slow in your work, but be quick in spirit, as the Lord's servants; NIV 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. BBE 12 Being glad in hope, quiet in trouble, at all times given to prayer, NIV 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. BBE 13 Giving to the needs of the saints, ready to take people into your houses. NIV 13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. BBE 14 Give blessing and not curses to those who are cruel to you. NIV 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. BBE 15 Take part in the joy of those who are glad, and in the grief of those who are sorrowing. NIV 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. BBE 16 Be in harmony with one another. Do not have a high opinion of yourselves, but be in agreement with common people. Do not give yourselves an air of wisdom. NIV 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. BBE 17 Do not give evil for evil to any man. Let all your business be well ordered in the eyes of all men. NIV 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. BBE 18 As far as it is possible for you be at peace with all men. NIV 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. BBE 19 Do not give punishment for wrongs done to you, dear brothers, but give way to the wrath of God; for it is said in the holy Writings, Punishment is mine, I will give reward, says the Lord. NIV 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. BBE 20 But if one who has hate for you is in need of food or of drink, give it to him, for in so doing you will put coals of fire on his head. NIV 20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." BBE 21 Do not let evil overcome you, but overcome evil by good. NIV 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
