Zechariah 4

GNT 1 The angel who had been speaking to me came again and roused me as if I had been sleeping. NIV 1 Then the angel who talked with me returned and wakened me, as a man is wakened from his sleep. GNT 2 "What do you see?" he asked. "A lampstand made of gold," I answered. "At the top is a bowl for the oil. On the lampstand are seven lamps, each one with places for seven wicks. NIV 2 He asked me, "What do you see?" I answered, "I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lights on it, with seven channels to the lights. GNT 3 There are two olive trees beside the lampstand, one on each side of it." NIV 3 Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left." GNT 4 Then I asked the angel, "What do these things stand for, sir?" NIV 4 I asked the angel who talked with me, "What are these, my lord?" GNT 5 "Don't you know?" he asked me. "No, I don't, sir," I replied. NIV 5 He answered, "Do you not know what these are?" "No, my lord," I replied. GNT 6 The angel told me to give Zerubbabel this message from the Lord: "You will succeed, not by military might or by your own strength, but by my spirit. NIV 6 So he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty. GNT 7 Obstacles as great as mountains will disappear before you. You will rebuild the Temple, and as you put the last stone in place, the people will shout, "Beautiful, beautiful!' " NIV 7 "What are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of 'God bless it! God bless it!' " GNT 8 Another message came to me from the Lord. NIV 8 Then the word of the LORD came to me: GNT 9 He said, "Zerubbabel has laid the foundation of the Temple, and he will finish the building. When this happens, my people will know that it is I who sent you to them. NIV 9 "The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. GNT 10 a) They are disappointed because so little progress is being made. But they will see Zerubbabel continuing to build the Temple, and they will be glad." b) The angel said to me, "The seven lamps are the seven eyes of the Lord, which see all over the earth." NIV 10 "Who despises the day of small things? Men will rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. "(These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range throughout the earth.)" GNT 11 Then I asked him, "What do the two olive trees on either side of the lampstand mean? NIV 11 Then I asked the angel, "What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?" GNT 12 And what is the meaning of the two olive branches beside the two gold pipes from which the olive oil pours?" NIV 12 Again I asked him, "What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?" GNT 13 He asked me, "Don't you know?" "No, I don't, sir," I answered. NIV 13 He replied, "Do you not know what these are?" "No, my lord," I said. GNT 14 Then he said, "These are the two men whom God has chosen and anointed to serve him, the Lord of the whole earth." NIV 14 So he said, "These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth."
