Praise the LORD.a1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;2 his love endures forever.32
Who can proclaim the mighty acts4 of the LORD or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are they who maintain justice,5 who constantly do what is right.64
Remember me,7 O LORD, when you show favor8 to your people, come to my aid9 when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity10 of your chosen ones,11 that I may share in the joy12 of your nation and join your inheritance13 in giving praise.
We have sinned,14 even as our fathers15 did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.167
When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought17 to your miracles; they did not remember18 your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea,19 the Red Sea.b8
Yet he saved them20 for his name's sake,21 to make his mighty power22 known.
He rebuked23 the Red Sea, and it dried up;24 he led them through25 the depths as through a desert.
He saved them26 from the hand of the foe;27 from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.2811
The waters covered29 their adversaries; not one of them survived.
Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.3013
But they soon forgot31 what he had done and did not wait for his counsel.3214
In the desert33 they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland34 they put God to the test.3515
So he gave them36 what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease37 upon them.
In the camp they grew envious38 of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.
The earth opened39 up and swallowed Dathan;40 it buried the company of Abiram.4118
Fire blazed42 among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.
At Horeb they made a calf43 and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
They exchanged their Glory44 for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
They forgot the God45 who saved them, who had done great things46 in Egypt,
miracles in the land of Ham47 and awesome deeds48 by the Red Sea.
So he said he would destroy49 them-- had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach50 before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.
Then they despised51 the pleasant land;52 they did not believe53 his promise.
They grumbled54 in their tents and did not obey the LORD.
So he swore55 to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert,5627
make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter57 them throughout the lands.
They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor58 and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
they provoked the LORD to anger59 by their wicked deeds,60 and a plague61 broke out among them.
But Phinehas62 stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked.6331
This was credited to him64 as righteousness for endless generations65 to come.
By the waters of Meribah66 they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them;
for they rebelled67 against the Spirit68 of God, and rash words came from Moses' lips.c6934
They did not destroy70 the peoples as the LORD had commanded71 them,
but they mingled72 with the nations and adopted their customs.
They worshiped their idols,73 which became a snare74 to them.
They sacrificed their sons75 and their daughters to demons.7638
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons77 and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood.
They defiled themselves78 by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted79 themselves.
Therefore the LORD was angry80 with his people and abhorred his inheritance.8141
He handed them over82 to the nations, and their foes ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed83 them and subjected them to their power.
Many times he delivered them,84 but they were bent on rebellion85 and they wasted away in their sin.
But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry;8645
for their sake he remembered his covenant87 and out of his great love88 he relented.8946
He caused them to be pitied90 by all who held them captive.
Save us,91 O LORD our God, and gather us92 from the nations, that we may give thanks93 to your holy name94 and glory in your praise.
Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!"95 Praise the LORD.
