Jeremiah 29:24

[Thus] shalt thou speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite
Or, "the dreamer" ^F8; because he pretended to have dreams from the Lord; or because what he delivered as prophecies were mere dreams; as that the captives should quickly return to their own land; so Kimchi: but Jarchi takes it to be the name of a place, from whence he was so called; perhaps the place of his birth, or habitation formerly; so the Targum, paraphrasing

``who was of Halem;''

he was, another of the false prophets in Babylon. This latter part of the chapter is of a later date than the former; and refers to what was done after the above letter of Jeremiah came to the captives in Babylon; and after, the return of the messengers from thence, who brought, account how it was received, and what umbrage it gave to the false prophets: saying;

22 E por causa deles será formulada uma maldição por todos os exilados de Judá que estão em Babilônia, dizendo: O Senhor te faça como a Zedequias, e como a Acabe, os quais o rei de Babilônia assou no fogo;

23 porque fizeram insensatez em Israel, cometendo adultério com as mulheres de seus próximos, e anunciando falsamente em meu nome palavras que não lhes mandei. Eu o sei, e sou testemunha disso, diz o Senhor.

24 E a Semaías, o neelamita, falarás, dizendo:

25 Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Porquanto enviaste em teu próprio nome cartas a todo o povo que está em Jerusalém, como também a Sofonias, filho de Maaséias, o sacerdote, e a todos os sacerdotes, dizendo:

26 O Senhor te pôs por sacerdote em lugar de Jeoiada, o sacerdote, para que fosses encarregado da casa do Senhor, sobre todo homem obsesso que profetiza, para o lançares na prisão e no tronco;
