10 Beautiful Biblical Descriptions of What Heaven Looks Like

10 Beautiful Biblical Descriptions of What Heaven Looks Like

July 10, 2026

What does Heaven look like? What does the Bible say?

The Bible provides several vivid descriptions of Heaven, particularly in the Book of Revelation, although these descriptions are often symbolic and open to interpretation. According to Revelation chapters 21 and 22, Heaven, or the New Jerusalem, is depicted as a stunningly beautiful city coming down from God. It is described as having streets of gold, gates of pearl, and walls made of precious stones. The city is said to be brilliantly illuminated by the glory of God, obviating the need for the sun or moon. There is also the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb through the middle of the city's main street.

Additionally, the Bible mentions that Heaven is a place where there is no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). This suggests an existence that is entirely free from the sufferings and trials of earthly life. The overarching theme is one of eternal peace and joy in the presence of God, where the redeemed of the Lord will live in perfect harmony with Him and each other. These descriptions serve more to convey Heaven's splendor and emotional experience rather than providing a detailed layout of its physical appearance.

I’ve been fortunate to have witnessed some of the most breathtaking views on earth. From the Rocky Mountains outside my back window to the jungles of Belize, God’s creation is marvelous. But there is a future place—an eternal dwelling—far exceeding anything we could ever behold.

Heaven is not a mythical place. It is the holy dwelling of the Lord Most High. Although we cannot even begin to comprehend its splendor, the Bible gives us beautiful descriptions of the place in which those who have received Jesus will spend eternity.

Here are ten beautiful descriptions of heaven from the Bible. These can give us a better idea of what heaven will look like!

6 Prayers for Fragmented Relationships

6 Prayers for Fragmented Relationships

May 19, 2026

I used to collect Willow Tree figurines representing each family member. They rested on my fireplace mantle until the entire shelf came down one year later, and many broke. I was able to glue some back together, but others were beyond repair.

This memory reminds me of relationships in general, how they are sometimes fragmented by unexpected circumstances, even beyond repair. The broken pieces of hurt and betrayal can be challenging to heal, but thankfully, we have a good Father who comforts us in all our trials.

If you’re unsure what to do with your fragmented relationships, here are six prayers to pray.
