Sometimes telling someone who is facing a trial that God is in control feels to them like platitudes. We’ve all heard it before, but deep in our hearts, do we believe it when we are suffering? Often, well-meaning loved ones will say, “This too shall pass,” but where can we go in the Bible to find rest and encouragement knowing God is sovereign?

Paul, as we see from the text, is Timothy’s father in the faith. He has assumed the responsibility of teaching Timothy Christlike obedience and behavior, perhaps because Paul led Timothy to faith in Christ. Even if he had not, Paul knew the importance of teaching Timothy the true doctrine of the Christian faith.

Aren’t you glad the Lord God gave us (at least most of us) four distinct seasons? We can’t help but guess Spring came first amid the grandeur of the Garden of Eden. With all its flora and fauna, the juxtaposition of colors must have been breathtaking. We too are able to embrace each season for its special beauty (the verdant greens of spring, the warmth and comfort of summer, the rowdy colors of fall, and the severe beauty of winter’s snowy landscapes).
As we reflect upon the renewal of spring, let’s look at some encouraging words from Scripture.

An old adage states there are two things a polite conversation never includes—religion and politics. But in the past forty-five years, religion and politics have meshed to the point of syncretism. Political ideals have replaced many Christians’ zeal for the Lord with fervor for a Christian nation via politics. At what point does politics become an idol, and what are the warning signs this is happening?
The Christian Post reports on the Moral Majority, “Founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell in 1979, the Moral Majority advocated for conservative positions on issues like abortion, homosexuality, and school vouchers. It also helped millions of Christians register to vote.” The organization gave rise to the impetus that Christians who engage in politics, both as candidates and supporters, are honoring to God because Christians will bring a moral rightness to a largely secular civil realm.

If we all take a good look at what is happening within our churches, we’ll most likely hear, read about, and see groups of women focused on numerous tasks. Both women’s and men’s activities within the church are important, but why are so many women involved in the church? What are today's churches doing well in connecting with women, and how can women use their unique talents and abilities to reach more for the Kingdom?

The Bible is our authority. In it, God has given us everything we need to live a life of godliness. Because it is written by the Lord Jesus, what He teaches in the words of the Scriptures, He teaches us. Our reactions to Him show whether we believe and surrender to Him or if we hold Him in derision.

What is not a mystery is that God will reveal what He wants when He wants to whom He wants (Exodus 33:19). God’s mysteries are Divine mysteries, and that truth makes them beyond the scope of our frail, human intellect, except for what He reveals via His Spirit within us believers.

Man cannot control the Christmas spirit because man is incapable of finding the peace and joy within himself. The peace and the joy we associate with the Christmas spirit is wholly a gift of Jesus Christ thought the Holy Spirit within us.

Jesus gave further explanation of the difference between a good fruit bearer and one who produces bad fruit. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles. A healthy tree bears good fruit and a diseased tree bears bad fruit.

No matter who hosts the gathering, participants usually pitch in with various family favorites. The added dish is sometimes enmity, though, as personalities and ideologies clash. As we ponder the menu and the participants, let’s plan to be led with the fruit of the Spirit.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a great listener — the best listener the world will ever know. And He continues to listen to those who surrender to Him in repentance and faith, and to Christians as we praise Him and pray in confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.
While He walked this earth, Jesus posed many questions, both to His followers and those on the periphery (which included combative Jewish leaders and even Roman militia). Jesus’ questions were pointed and when they landed on listening ears, His queries led Jesus’ audience on an introspective journey to truth —toward Himself (John 14:6).
Every question our Lord asked is important, but when pressed to choose just 12, it’s easy to land on the following. I pray the lessons Jesus taught through these questions in the Gospels fill your heart and mind with His truth and goodness.
