Christ didn’t just tell us to renew our hearts and good luck. Jesus gave us not only the call to renewal, but the tools and the promise of our success in the endeavor!

God has provided ways for us to renew our hearts, some of which we need to take the lead on and some he nudges us to do. We’re blessed that he didn’t leave us without ways to keep our hearts in tip-top working order.

Our souls can so easily become like a plant that’s been neglected—parched, drooping, not able to bear fruit or flower. Even steadfast Christians can go through dry spells, and thus our need for renewal becomes a regular part of our life as believers.

As believers, we should also keep a close eye on our hearts. Unrepentant sin or a cavalier attitude toward the work Christ did on the cross causes our hearts to lose the flexibility and softness from when we first accepted Jesus as our Savior.

The renewal of our hearts continues throughout our life because even as followers of Christ, we’re still prone to sin. Renewal must be an integral part of our hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly lives.

A renewed heart means we’re a new creation. The way to renewal begins with this important truth, and we can’t take even one step forward until we truly believe this with our whole heart.
