A Step-by-Step Study of Proverbs 3:5-6

Throughout the Bible, we see that God desires not only our hearts, but our obedience. In all your ways submit to Him implies that we are not called to obey the Lord in some of our ways or most of our ways, He asks for our everything. He knows that we are not perfect and we are all undergoing the process of sanctification. However, He has given us the ability to live by His Spirit instead of our flesh.

We are commanded to submit to our Savior and walk with Him. Even if we do not understand the why sometimes, we do know the Who. We are called to submit to the One who created us and came down and saved us even when we had rejected Him. He loves us more than anyone ever could. He is perfectly safe to put our full obedience in.

1 Samuel 15:22 says, “Then Samuel said: Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? Look: to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams.”

The beauty of following God is that He makes our paths straight. There is great blessing in trusting and obeying the Lord. This does not mean that life will be easy; the Bible guarantees that Christ-followers will have hard times and trials. However, there is a spiritual joy that comes when we place our whole trust in our great God.

This means that when we have questions, when we are at a crossroads for decision making, or when we are overwhelmed, we can go to Him and He will give us the wisdom and the discernment that we need. He will tell us yes, no, or wait.  We can fully rely on His answers in our lives and His guidance as we walk with Him daily. He cares about the big life decisions, as well as the smaller everyday choices.

Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

I love how this verse tells us that God teaches and instructs us when we need direction, and He counsels us with His loving eye on us. Our Lord loves us so very much. He is looking on our lives as we strive to walk with Him with an abundance of love and desires the best for us like a good Father does for His child. He is trustworthy today and always.
