Christ’s Promise of Renewal (Renewing Our Hearts This Easter Week 4)

Is there a more joyous Easter hymn than “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”? This compilation of an anonymous author, from Arnold’s Compleat Psalmodist and Charles Wesley, sums up the two great themes of Easter—the cross and resurrection of Christ. The hymn also celebrates the wonderful news of Christ crucified and risen.

Jesus Christ is risen today,
Our triumphant holy day,
Who did once upon the cross
Suffer to redeem our loss.

Hymns of praise then let us sing
Unto Christ our heav’nly King,
Who endured the cross and grave,
Sinners to redeem and save.

But the pains which he endured,
Our salvation have procured;
Now above the sky he’s King,
Where the angels ever sing.

Sing we to our God above
Praise eternal as his love;
Praise him, all ye heav’nly host,
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Next week, we’ll look at the path to renewing our hearts.
