In the Light of the Morning

Jesus showed up for us. He came to earth, sent by the Father. It was always the plan. The Father’s love for us is expressed in the sacrificial way He gave His only Son …so we may live our lives to the full. There is real darkness in the world. A powerful enemy filling the atmosphere with injustice, pain, death, and evil …But none of it can drown out the Light of the Lord. The ESV Study Bible explains: “Just as the sun drives away darkness and clouds, bringing light and joy, so the sun of righteousness will scatter gloom, oppression, and injustice. The ‘righteousness’ brought by this ‘sun’ includes both judgments on evildoers and rewards for the righteous. Its wings are a poetic image of the rays of the sun. These wings bring healing to all who come under them. Scholars have understood this prophecy to be fulfilled in Christ, who is ‘the light of the world.”
The Light of the morning is Jesus. He was with God at creation. He is all over the pages of the Old Testament. In fact, when we can see Him there, His earthly life, death, and resurrection seep even deeper into our bones, reviving our souls and refreshing our minds. The apostle John wrote:
Every day the sun rises, we are reminded of who God is. Creator, Father, and Sovereign. The sunrise signals the promise of the resurrection of His Son ushered forth: death defeated, and darkness extinguished. John Piper wrote: “Day and night everywhere in the world God is speaking to all people about himself.” Right now, sitting at the right hand of the Father, Jesus intercedes for us. He waits for the time to rise again, returning for His children, and ushering in the era of Light. Earth, the way it was intended to be, will happen when He returns. The next time we are able, even to roll over and gaze out the window at sunrise, we can smile and know God is smiling at us. He sees us, He loves us, and the Son will return as assuredly as the sun rises each day.
