There Is Power in Every Choice We Make

We don’t often think about this, but one of the most amazing things we have in life is the power to choose or decide. Everything you do in life comes down to the choices you make. When you understand the power of choices, you will see that your ability to choose brings with it great responsibility. To put it another way, our lives are the sums of the choices we make.

What are the choices you need to make to improve that area?

It doesn't matter how much you talk about it, pray about it, think about it, complain about it, until you make better choices (sowing), you will not see better results (reaping). That’s why I believe this is the greatest verse on choices in the Bible.

1. All Choices Come with Consequences

I think we have been highlighting this truth throughout but let me reiterate it. The decisions you choose to make will have consequences attached to them. We often think of consequences in a bad light, but there can be good consequences as well. Here is a verse that highlights both the positive and negative consequences of choice.

Notice your obedience brings blessing but your rebellion brings judgment. The difference is simply what choice will you make, for that will determine the consequence.

2. Passing the Blame Does Not Alleviate Your Responsibility

When you go back to the Adam and Eve story, they both passed the blame, however God still held them responsible for their actions. How often do you see someone get in trouble because of the choices they made, and then try to pass the blame somewhere else? Even if you do that, you are still responsible for your decision. Think and choose wisely because at the end of the day, you are responsible for your choices.

3. You Will Be Held Accountable for Your Choices

For a moment, look at the sobering tone of these three verses:

We are all responsible for what we say and do, and one day we will give an account for it. Let me ask you, who controls what you say and do? You do. I do recognize there are things that can move you in one direction or the other and influence the decisions you make, but ultimately the choice is yours and you will have to give an account. This is not meant to be scary but to cause you to think about the things you do before you do them.

As you consider your ways, I want to challenge you everyday to think about the choices you are going to make. Think about them before and not after, because then it could be too late. The best part is you don’t have to figure this out yourself. You can lean on a God who, if you allow him, will guide you every step of the way, leading you into the best possible choices you can make for your life.
