1 Samuel 18:15

Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely,
&c.] So that he could get no advantage against him, and he succeeded and was prosperous in all his enterprises, and was more and more in favour with the people:

he was afraid of him;
lest the time was drawing near that the kingdom should be rent from him, and given to David.

13 Por tanto, Saúl lo alejó de su presencia nombrándolo jefe de mil hombres; y salía y entraba al frente de la tropa.
14 Y David prosperaba en todos sus caminos, pues el SEÑOR estaba con él.
15 Cuando Saúl vio que él prosperaba mucho, le tuvo terror.
16 Pero todo Israel y Judá amaba a David, porque él salía y entraba delante de ellos.
17 Entonces Saúl dijo a David: He aquí, Merab, mi hija mayor; te la daré por mujer, con tal que me seas hombre valiente y pelees las batallas del SEÑOR. Porque Saúl se decía: No será mi mano contra él, sino sea contra él la mano de los filisteos.
