1 Samuel 26:4

David therefore sent out spies
To observe if he was coming or come, and where he was, that he might not be surprised by him; for though David knew the Lord was and would be his protection, he thought proper to be upon his guard, and to make use of means for his safety:

and understood that Saul was come in very deed;
that he was most certainly come, and come to some certain place; which he himself went to reconnoitre, as in ( 1 Samuel 26:5 ) .

2 Se levantó, pues, Saúl y descendió al desierto de Zif, teniendo consigo tres mil hombres escogidos de Israel, para buscar a David en el desierto de Zif.
3 Y acampó Saúl en la colina de Haquila, que está frente a Jesimón, junto al camino, y David permanecía en el desierto. Cuando vio que Saúl venía tras él al desierto,
4 David envió espías, y supo que Saúl en verdad se acercaba.
5 Se levantó David y vino al lugar donde Saúl había acampado. Y vio David el lugar donde estaban acostados Saúl y Abner, hijo de Ner, el jefe de su ejército; Saúl dormía en medio del campamento y el pueblo estaba acampado alrededor de él.
6 Entonces habló David a Ahimelec heteo y a Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, hermano de Joab, diciendo: ¿Quién descenderá conmigo a donde está Saúl en el campamento? Y Abisai dijo: Yo descenderé contigo.
