Deuteronomio 23

1 Ninguno que haya sido castrado o que tenga cortado su miembro viril entrará en la asamblea del SEÑOR.

2 Ningún bastardo entrará en la asamblea del SEÑOR, ninguno de sus descendientes, aun hasta la décima generación, entrará en la asamblea del SEÑOR.

3 Ningún amonita ni moabita entrará en la asamblea del SEÑOR; ninguno de sus descendientes, aun hasta la décima generación, entrará jamás en la asamblea del SEÑOR,

4 porque no fueron a vuestro encuentro con pan y agua en el camino cuando salisteis de Egipto, y porque alquilaron contra ti a Balaam, hijo de Beor, de Petor en Mesopotamia, para maldecirte

5 Mas el SEÑOR tu Dios no quiso escuchar a Balaam, sino que el SEÑOR tu Dios te cambió la maldición en bendición, porque el SEÑOR tu Dios te ama.

6 Nunca buscarás su paz ni su prosperidad en todos tus días.

7 No aborrecerás al edomita, porque es tu hermano; no aborrecerás al egipcio, porque fuiste extranjero en su tierra.

8 Los hijos de la tercera generación que les nazcan podrán entrar en la asamblea del SEÑOR.

9 Cuando salgas como ejército contra tus enemigos, te guardarás de toda cosa mala.

10 Si hay en medio de ti un hombre inmundo a causa de una emisión nocturna, debe salir fuera del campamento; no volverá a entrar al campamento.

11 Pero al llegar la tarde se bañará con agua, y cuando se ponga el sol, podrá entrar de nuevo al campamento.

12 Tendrás también un lugar fuera del campamento y saldrás allí;

13 y tendrás entre tus herramientas una pala, y cuando te sientes allá fuera, cavarás con ella, y te darás vuelta para cubrir tu excremento.

14 Porque el SEÑOR tu Dios anda en medio de tu campamento para librarte y para derrotar a tus enemigos de delante de ti, por tanto, tu campamento debe ser santo; y El no debe ver nada indecente en medio de ti, no sea que se aparte de ti

15 No entregarás a su amo un esclavo que venga a ti huyendo de su señor.

16 Contigo habitará en medio de ti, en el lugar que él escoja en una de tus ciudades donde le parezca bien; no lo maltratarás.

17 Ninguna de las hijas de Israel será ramera de culto pagano; tampoco ninguno de los hijos de Israel será sodomita de culto pagano.

18 No traerás la paga de una ramera ni el sueldo de un perro a la casa del SEÑOR tu Dios para cualquier ofrenda votiva, porque los dos son abominación para el SEÑOR tu Dios.

19 No cobrarás interés a tu hermano: interés sobre dinero, alimento, o cualquier cosa que pueda ser prestado a interés

20 Podrás cobrar interés a un extranjero, pero a tu hermano no le cobrarás interés a fin de que el SEÑOR tu Dios te bendiga en todo lo que emprendas en la tierra que vas a entrar para poseerla.

21 Cuando hagas un voto al SEÑOR tu Dios, no tardarás en pagarlo, porque el SEÑOR tu Dios ciertamente te lo reclamará, y sería pecado en ti

22 Sin embargo, si te abstienes de hacer un voto, no sería pecado en ti.

23 Lo que salga de tus labios, cuidarás de cumplirlo, tal como voluntariamente has hecho voto al SEÑOR tu Dios, lo cual has prometido con tu boca.

24 Cuando entres en la viña de tu prójimo, entonces podrás comer las uvas que desees hasta saciarte, pero no pondrás ninguna en tu cesto.

25 Cuando entres en la mies de tu prójimo, entonces podrás arrancar espigas con tu mano, pero no meterás la hoz a la mies de tu prójimo.

Deuteronomio 23 Commentary

Chapter 23

Who are shut out from the congregation. (1-8) Cleanliness enjoined. (15-25) Of fugitive servants, Usury, and other precepts. (9-14)

Verses 1-8 We ought to value the privileges of God's people, both for ourselves and for our children, above all other advantages. No personal blemishes, no crimes of our forefathers, no difference of nation, shuts us out under the Christian dispensation. But an unsound heart will deprive us of blessings; and a bad example, or an unsuitable marriage, may shut our children from them.

Verses 9-14 The camp of the Lord must have nothing offensive in it. If there must be this care taken to preserve the body clean, much more should we be careful to keep the mind pure.

Verses 15-25 It is honourable to shelter and protect the weak, provided they are not wicked. Proselytes and converts to the truth, should be treated with particular tenderness, that they may have no temptation to return to the world. We cannot honour God with our substance, unless it be honestly and honourably come by. It must not only be considered what we give, but how we got it. Where the borrower gets, or hopes to get, it is just that the lender should share the gain; but to him that borrows for necessary food, pity must be showed. That which is gone out of thy lips, as a solemn and deliberate vow, must not be recalled, but thou shalt keep and perform it punctually and fully. They were allowed to pluck and eat of the corn or grapes that grew by the road side; only they must not carry any away. This law intimated what great plenty of corn and wine they should have in Canaan. It provided for the support of poor travellers, and teaches us to be kind to such, teaches us to be ready to distribute, and not to think every thing lost that is given away. Yet it forbids us to abuse the kindness of friends, or to take advantage of what is allowed. Faithfulness to their engagements should mark the people of God; and they should never encroach upon others.
