Nehemías 5:12

12 Entonces ellos dijeron: Lo devolveremos y no les exigiremos nada; haremos tal como has dicho. Y llamé a los sacerdotes y les hice jurar que harían conforme a esta promesa.

Nehemiah 5:12

Then said they, we will restore them
The lands, vineyards, oliveyards, and houses:

and will require nothing of them;
not the hundredth part of the fruits of the earth by way of salary:

so will we do as thou sayest;
they approved of his proposal, and readily agreed to it:

then I called the priests, and took an oath of them that they should do
according to this promise;
not that the priests were delinquents, they were not charged with anything of this kind, nor were they the men that promised restitution; but the priests were called to administer the oath to the nobles, and rulers, and rich men, to oblige them the more to keep their word; an oath being sacred, priests in an holy office were made use of to give it, that it might be the more solemn, and the more strictly regarded.

10 También yo y mis hermanos y mis siervos les hemos prestado dinero y grano. Os ruego, pues, que abandonemos esta usura.

11 Os ruego que hoy mismo les devolváis sus campos, sus viñas, sus olivares y sus casas; también la centésima parte del dinero y del grano, del mosto y del aceite que estáis exigiendo de ellos.

12 Entonces ellos dijeron: Lo devolveremos y no les exigiremos nada; haremos tal como has dicho. Y llamé a los sacerdotes y les hice jurar que harían conforme a esta promesa.

13 También sacudí los pliegues de mi manto y dije: Así sacuda Dios de su casa y de sus bienes a todo hombre que no cumpla esta promesa; así sea sacudido y despojado. Y toda la asamblea dijo: ¡Amén! Y alabaron al SEÑOR. Entonces el pueblo hizo conforme a esta promesa.

14 Además, desde el día en que el rey me mandó que fuera gobernador en la tierra de Judá, desde el año veinte hasta el año treinta y dos del rey Artajerjes, doce años, ni yo ni mis hermanos hemos comido del pan del gobernador.
