TWISTED SCRIPTURE Revelation 7:1-8 (see 14:1-5)

The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society understand these verses to teach that only 144,000 persons will enter heaven in the “anointed class.” According to The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the 144,000 were all born prior to 1914 and will reign alongside Christ after death. Any Jehovah’s Witnesses not included in the 144,000 will be members of the “earthly class,” will experience paradise on a renewed earth, and will serve Christ and the 144,000. Though there is some disagreement among Christian scholars as to the identity of the 144,000, the verses are not distinguishing between two classes of persons in the afterlife. Revelation 7:9 indicates there will be a “vast multitude” before the throne, not just 144,000, and the “vast multitude” will be together as one.
