Luke 20:33

33 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will the woman be? For all seven had married her."[a]

Luke 20:33 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 20:33

Therefore in the resurrection
At the time of the resurrection of the dead, in that state, supposing there will be such an one, which they denied; whose wife of them is she?
the first, or the last, or any of the intermediate ones? for seven had her to wife;
and she had no child by either of them; so that their claim seems to be alike; this they thought unanswerable, and sufficient to set aside the notion of a resurrection.

Luke 20:33 In-Context

31 and the third took her. In the same way, all seven died and left no children.
32 Finally, the woman died too.
33 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife will the woman be? For all seven had married her."
34 Jesus told them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35 But those who are counted worthy to take part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
