Luke 22:60 Meaning and Commentary

Luke 22:60

And Peter said, man, I know not what thou sayest
Suggesting, that he was so far from being a follower of Jesus, or a disciple of his, and from having any personal acquaintance with him, that he did not know what he was talking of, or at least could not understand what he meant by this harangue, or by talking after this manner about him; and then began to curse and swear, and wish the most dreadful things to befall him, if he knew any thing of Jesus of Nazareth: and immediately while he yet spake:
in this shocking manner, with his mouth full of oaths, curses, and imprecations: the cock crew;
the second time, ( Mark 14:72 ) .

Luke 22:60 In-Context

58 After a little while, someone else saw him and said, "You're one of them too!" "Man, I am not!" Peter said.
59 About an hour later, another kept insisting, "This man was certainly with Him, since he's also a Galilean."
60 But Peter said, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
61 Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."
62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
