Psalms 107:25

25 He spoke and raised a tempest that stirred up the waves of the sea.[a]

Psalms 107:25 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 107:25

For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind
Winds are not raised by men, nor by devils, nor by angels, but by the Lord himself; who has created them, holds them in his fist, brings them out of his treasures, and sends them forth to do his will; if he speaks the word, gives but the order, a storm arises at once, and executes what he pleases, ( Psalms 148:8 ) .

Which lifteth up the waves thereof;
that is, the waves of the sea; it comes down into it, and causes surges; which rise above the ship, and sometimes cover it, and ready to sink it; yea, even they are lifted up to the heavens, as it follows.

Psalms 107:25 In-Context

23 Others went to sea in ships, conducting trade on the vast waters.
24 They saw the Lord's works, His wonderful works in the deep.
25 He spoke and raised a tempest that stirred up the waves of the sea.
26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths, their courage melting away in anguish,
27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men, and all their skill was useless.
