Psalms 78:56

56 But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep His decrees.

Psalms 78:56 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 78:56

Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God
After the death of Joshua, and in the times of the judges, by worshipping and serving the gods of the nations, and forsaking the Lord their God, who had done such great things for them, ( Judges 2:11-14 ) ,

and kept not his testimonies;
the laws of God, which testified and declared his mind and will; nor observed his word and ordinances, which testified of his grace, and of the way of salvation by Jesus Christ.

Psalms 78:56 In-Context

54 He brought them to His holy land, to the mountain His right hand acquired.
55 He drove out nations before them. He apportioned their inheritance by lot and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 But they rebelliously tested the Most High God, for they did not keep His decrees.
57 They treacherously turned away like their fathers; they became warped like a faulty bow.
58 They enraged Him with their high places and provoked His jealousy with their carved images.
