20 亞 瑪 謝 卻 不 肯 聽 從 。 這 是 出 乎 　 神 ， 好 將 他 們 交 在 敵 人 手 裡 ， 因 為 他 們 尋 求 以 東 的 　 神 。

Ver. 20-28. But Amaziah would not hear
What the king of Israel advised him to, not to meddle to his hurt;

for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand [of their
enemies];
Amaziah and his army into the hands of Joash and his; this was the will of God, and was brought about by his providence; and that it might be, Amaziah was given up to blindness and hardness of heart, as a punishment of his idolatry:

because they sought after the gods of Edom;

18 以 色 列 王 約 阿 施 差 遣 使 者 去 見 猶 大 王 亞 瑪 謝 ， 說 ： 利 巴 嫩 的 蒺 藜 差 遣 使 者 去 見 利 巴 嫩 的 香 柏 樹 ， 說 ： 將 你 的 女 兒 給 我 兒 子 為 妻 。 後 來 利 巴 嫩 有 一 個 野 獸 經 過 ， 把 蒺 藜 踐 踏 了 。

19 你 說 ： 看 哪 ， 我 打 敗 了 以 東 人 ， 你 就 心 高 氣 傲 ， 以 致 矜 誇 。 你 在 家 裡 安 居 就 罷 了 ， 為 何 要 惹 禍 使 自 己 和 猶 大 國 一 同 敗 亡 呢 ？

21 於 是 以 色 列 王 約 阿 施 上 來 ， 在 猶 大 的 伯 示 麥 與 猶 大 王 亞 瑪 謝 相 見 於 戰 場 。

22 猶 大 人 敗 在 以 色 列 人 面 前 ， 各 自 逃 回 家 裡 去 了 。
