18 到 第 七 日 ， 孩 子 死 了 。 大 衛 的 臣 僕 不 敢 告 訴 他 孩 子 死 了 ， 因 他 們 說 ： 孩 子 還 活 著 的 時 候 ， 我 們 勸 他 ， 他 尚 且 不 肯 聽 我 們 的 話 ， 若 告 訴 他 孩 子 死 了 ， 豈 不 更 加 憂 傷 麼 ？

2 Samuel 12:18

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died,
&c.] Not the seventh day from its being taken ill, but from its birth; for it cannot be thought that David should fast seven days:

and the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead;
lest he should be overwhelmed with too much sorrow:

for they said, behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto
him;
to rise from the ground, and eat food:

and he would not hearken unto our voice;
we could not prevail upon him to do the one nor the other:

how will he then vex himself if we tell him that the child is dead?
or should we acquaint him with it, "he will do mischief" ^F23 to himself, to his body; he will tear his flesh to pieces, and cut and kill himself; this they were afraid of, observing the distress and agony he was in while it was living, and therefore they concluded these would increase upon hearing of its death.

17 他 家 中 的 老 臣 來 到 他 旁 邊 ， 要 把 他 從 地 上 扶 起 來 ， 他 卻 不 肯 起 來 ， 也 不 同 他 們 吃 飯 。

18 到 第 七 日 ， 孩 子 死 了 。 大 衛 的 臣 僕 不 敢 告 訴 他 孩 子 死 了 ， 因 他 們 說 ： 孩 子 還 活 著 的 時 候 ， 我 們 勸 他 ， 他 尚 且 不 肯 聽 我 們 的 話 ， 若 告 訴 他 孩 子 死 了 ， 豈 不 更 加 憂 傷 麼 ？

19 大 衛 見 臣 僕 彼 此 低 聲 說 話 ， 就 知 道 孩 子 死 了 ， 問 臣 僕 說 ： 孩 子 死 了 麼 ？ 他 們 說 ： 死 了 。

20 大 衛 就 從 地 上 起 來 ， 沐 浴 ， 抹 膏 ， 換 了 衣 裳 ， 進 耶 和 華 的 殿 敬 拜 ； 然 後 回 宮 ， 吩 咐 人 擺 飯 ， 他 便 吃 了 。
