HOLD

hold:

In the American Standard Revised Version frequently "stronghold" (Judges 9:49; 1 Samuel 22:4; 24:22; 2 Samuel 5:17; 23:14; 1 Chronicles 11:16; 12:16). See FORTIFICATION. In Revelation 18:2 for the King James Version "cage" (phulake) the Revised Version (British and American) substitutes, as in first clause, "hold," and in the margin "prison."
