Luke 16:27

Then he said, I pray thee therefore father
The Cambridge, copy of Beza's, and the Ethiopic version read, "father Abraham"; finding he could have no redress of his misery, nor any relief for himself, he applies for others:

that thou wouldst send him to my father's house;
the house of Israel and Jacob, the surviving Jews: and this agrees also with a notion of theirs, that the dead seek for mercy for them ^F12. The Persic and Ethiopic versions read, "that thou wouldst send Lazarus", &c. whom the one calls Gazarus, and the other Eleazar.

25 Abraham aber sprach: Kind, gedenke, daß du dein Gutes völlig empfangen hast in deinem Leben, und Lazarus gleicherweise das Böse; jetzt aber wird er hier getröstet, du aber leidest Pein.

26 Und zu diesem allem ist zwischen uns und euch eine große Kluft befestigt, damit die, welche von hier zu euch hinübergehen wollen, nicht können, noch die, welche von dort zu uns herüberkommen wollen.

27 Er sprach aber: Ich bitte dich nun, Vater, daß du ihn in das Haus meines Vaters sendest,

28 denn ich habe fünf Brüder, damit er ihnen ernstlich Zeugnis gebe, auf daß sie nicht auch kommen an diesen Ort der Qual.

29 Abraham aber spricht zu ihm: Sie haben Moses und die Propheten; mögen sie dieselben hören.
