I thank him 1who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, 2appointing me to his service,
though formerly I was a blasphemer, 3persecutor, and insolent opponent. But 4I received mercy 5because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief,
and 6the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the 7faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
The saying is 8trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus 9came into the world to save sinners, 10of whom I am the foremost.
But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.
To 11the King of ages, 12immortal, 13invisible, 14the only God, 15be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
This charge 16I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with 17the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may 18wage the good warfare,
19holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have 20made shipwreck of their faith,
among whom are 21Hymenaeus and 22Alexander, whom I 23have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to 24blaspheme.
