Prophecy Against Ammon

1 The word of the LORD came to me:
2 1"Son of man, 2set your face toward 3the Ammonites and prophesy against them.
3 Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD: 4Thus says the Lord GOD, Because you said, 5'Aha!' over my 6sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile,
4 therefore behold, I am handing you over to 7the people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.
5 I will make 8Rabbah a 9pasture for camels and Ammon[a]10a fold for flocks. 11Then you will know that I am the LORD.
6 For thus says the Lord GOD: Because 12you have clapped your hands 13and stamped your feet and 14rejoiced with all the 15malice within your soul against the land of Israel,
7 therefore, behold, 16I have stretched out my hand against you, and 17will hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Prophecy Against Moab and Seir

8 "Thus says the Lord GOD: Because 18Moab and 19Seir[b] said, 'Behold, the 20house of Judah is like all the other nations,'
9 therefore 21I will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, 22Beth-jeshimoth, 23Baal-meon, and 24Kiriathaim.
10 I will give it 25along with the Ammonites 26to the people of the East as a possession, 27that the Ammonites may be remembered no more among the nations,
11 28and I will execute judgments upon Moab. 29Then they will know that I am the LORD.

Prophecy Against Edom

12 "Thus says the Lord GOD: Because 30Edom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended 31in taking vengeance on them,
13 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 32I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from 33Teman even to 34Dedan they shall fall by the sword.
14 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom 35by the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and 36they shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord GOD.

Prophecy Against Philistia

15 "Thus says the Lord GOD: Because 37the Philistines 38acted revengefully and took vengeance 39with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity,
16 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 40Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off 41the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast.
17 I will execute great vengeance on them 42with wrathful rebukes. 43Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I lay my vengeance upon them."

Ezekiel 25 Commentary

Chapter 25

Judgments against the Ammonites. (1-7) Against the Moabites, Edomites, and Philistines. (8-17)

1-7. It is wicked to be glad at the calamities of any, especially of God's people; it is a sin for which he will surely reckon. God will make it appear that he is the God of Israel, though he suffers them for a time to be captives in Babylon. It is better to know Him, and to be poor, than to be rich and ignorant of him.

Verses 8-17 Though one event seem to the righteous and wicked, it is vastly different. Those who glory in any other defence and protection than the Divine power, providence, and promise, will, sooner or later, be ashamed of their glorying. Those who will not leave it to God to take vengeance for them, may expect that he will take vengeance on them. The equity of the Lord's judgments is to be observed, when he not only avenges injuries upon those that did them, but by those against whom they were done. Those who treasure up old hatred, and watch for the opportunity of manifesting it, are treasuring up for themselves wrath against the day of wrath.
