John 5:13

Listen to John 5:13
13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for 1Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.

John 5:13 Meaning and Commentary

John 5:13

And he that was healed, wist not who he was
He had never seen, and perhaps had never heard of Christ before, and so knew him not; and besides, Christ gave him no opportunity of conversing with him, or so much as to ask him who he was:

for Jesus had conveyed himself away;
had slipped away, as soon as ever he had wrought the miracle:

a multitude being in [that] place;
or "from the multitude that were in [that] place"; not that he hid himself among them, and there remained undiscovered; but he passed through them, and went his way to the temple, where he found the man he had healed, as in the following verse.

John 5:13 In-Context

11 But he answered them, ā€œThe man who healed me, that man said to me, ā€˜Take up your bed, and walk. ā€™ā€
12 They asked him, ā€œWho is the man who said to you, ā€˜Take up your bed and walk’? ā€
13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, ā€œSee, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you. ā€
15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.
