1 Samuel 25:4

And David heard in the wilderness
In the wilderness of Paran, where he was, and a wilderness it was to him, being in want of food, as the following relation shows:

that Nabal did shear his sheep;
when there was generally good living, and so a proper person, and a proper time, for David to apply for the relief of his wants.

2 Or v’era un uomo in Maon, le cui facoltà erano in Carmel, ed era uomo molto possente, ed avea tremila pecore, e mille capre; ed era in Carmel tosando le sue pecore.
3 E il nome di quell’uomo era Nabel, e il nome della sua moglie Abigail, la quale era donna di buon senno e bella; ma quell’uomo era aspro e di male affare, ed era del legnaggio di Caleb.
4 Or Davide intese nel deserto che Nabal tosava le sue pecore.
5 E mandò dieci fanti, e disse loro: Salite in Carmel, ed andate a Nabal, e salutatelo a nome mio.
6 E dite: Possa tu fare il medesimo l’anno vegnente, in questa stessa stagione, essendo tu, e la casa tua, e tutto il tuo, in prospero stato.
