24 Vi facciamo, oltre a ciò assapere che niuno abbia podestà d’imporre tributo, taglia, o gabella, ad alcun sacerdote, o Levita, o cantore, o portinaio, o Netineo, od altro ministro di cotesta Casa di Dio.

Ezra 7:24

Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and
Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of
God
The king had a right and perfect knowledge of the distinct offices and services of those persons, see ( Ezra 7:7 ) ,

it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them;
that they might be the less encumbered with the affairs of life, and be more at leisure to attend divine service, and do it the more readily and freely; it was usual with the Heathens to except ecclesiastics from taxes, tributes, and imposts; so the priests in Egypt ^F23, and the Druids here in Britain ^F24.

22 fino a cento talenti d’argento, e fino a cento cori di grano, fino a cento bati di vino, e fino a cento bati d’olio; e del sale senza alcuna prescritta quantità.

23 Tutto ciò che è del comandamento dell’Iddio del cielo, intorno alla sua Casa, sia prontamente fatto; perchè vi sarebbe egli indegnazione contro al regno, al re, ed a’ suoi figliuoli?

24 Vi facciamo, oltre a ciò assapere che niuno abbia podestà d’imporre tributo, taglia, o gabella, ad alcun sacerdote, o Levita, o cantore, o portinaio, o Netineo, od altro ministro di cotesta Casa di Dio.

25 E tu, Esdra, secondo la sapienza dell’Iddio tuo, che tu hai in mano, costituisci rettori, e giudici, i quali rendano ragione a tutto quel popolo che è di là dal fiume, cioè a tutti coloro che hanno conoscenza delle leggi dell’Iddio tuo; e insegnatele a quelli che non le sapranno.

26 E se v’è alcuno che non metta in opera la Legge dell’Iddio tuo, e la legge del re, siane incontanente fatta giustizia, o per morte, o per bando, o per ammenda in danari, o per prigione.
