36 Se quegli ordini sono giammai da me cangiati, dice il Signore; anche potrà la progenie d’Israele cessare d’esser nazione davanti a me in perpetuo.

Jeremiah 31:36

If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord,
&c.] Of the sun, moon, and stars; should these leave their proper course, and not perform their several functions, or do the service appointed for them; should they desert their master, or disobey his orders, turn away from him, and pay no regard to the laws and rules he has set them: [then] the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before
me for ever;
but, as the former is impossible, so is the latter, The Jews ceased not from being a nation through their captivity in Babylon, nor through their destruction by the Romans; they continue a distinct nation and people to this day, though scattered throughout the nations of the world: though this rather refers to the spiritual Israel, the holy nation and peculiar people; Christ will have a seed to serve him as long as the sun and moon endure; his church shall continue to the end of the world; it is built on a rock; and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it.

34 E non insegneranno più ciascuno il suo compagno, e il suo fratello, dicendo: Conoscete il Signore; perciocchè essi tutti, dal minore infino al maggiore di loro, mi conosceranno, dice il Signore; imperocchè io perdonerò loro la lor iniquità, e non mi ricorderò più del lor peccato.

35 Così ha detto il Signore, che ha dato il sole per la luce del dì, e gli ordini della luna, e delle stelle, per la luce della notte; che commuove il mare, onde le sue onde romoreggiano; il cui Nome è: Il Signor degli eserciti:

36 Se quegli ordini sono giammai da me cangiati, dice il Signore; anche potrà la progenie d’Israele cessare d’esser nazione davanti a me in perpetuo.

37 Così ha detto il Signore: Se i cieli di sopra si possono misurare, e i fondamenti della terra di sotto si possono scandagliare, io altresì riproverò tutta la progenie d’Israele, per tutte le cose che hanno fatte, dice il Signore.

38 Ecco, i giorni vengono, dice il Signore, che questa città sarà riedificata al Signore, dalla torre di Hananeel, infino alla porta del cantone.
