Neemia 4:17

17 Una parte di coloro che fabbricavano il muro, e quelli che portavano i pesi, e quelli che li caricavano, con una delle mani lavoravano all’opera, e con l’altra tenevano un’arme.

Neemia 4:17 Meaning and Commentary

Ver. 17 They which builded on the wall
That laid the mortar and stones upon it, and timber where it was necessary:

and they that bore burdens;
that carried the mortar, stones, and timber to the builders, and served them:

with those that laded;
which prepared the above for them, and laid them on their shoulders:

everyone with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other
hand held a weapon;
which is not to be understood strictly and literally, for without both hands they could not well perform either of the above works; but proverbially, signifying that they were intent on both working and fighting, and were ready and prepared to do the latter, as well as the former, having weapons lying by them, or girt about them, as is explained in the following verse.

15 Ora, quando i nostri nemici ebbero inteso che la cosa ci era venuta a notizia, Iddio dissipò il lor consiglio, e tutti noi ritornammo alle mura, ciascuno al suo lavoro.

16 E da quel dì innanzi, la metà de’ miei fanti lavorava, e l’altra metà stava in armi, con lance, scudi, archi, e corazze; e i capi erano dietro ad ogni famiglia di Giuda.

17 Una parte di coloro che fabbricavano il muro, e quelli che portavano i pesi, e quelli che li caricavano, con una delle mani lavoravano all’opera, e con l’altra tenevano un’arme.

18 Ed un’altra parte di coloro che fabbricavano aveano ciascuno la sua spada cinta in su le reni, e così fabbricavano. E il trombetta era appresso di me.

19 Ed io dissi agli uomini notabili, ed ai magistrati, ed al rimanente del popolo: Quest’opera è grande, e di gran distesa; e noi siamo sparsi in sul muro, lungi l’uno dall’altro.
