Proverbi 24:23-34

23 Queste cose ancora son per li Savi. Ei non è bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.

24 I popoli malediranno, e le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all’empio: Tu sei giusto.

25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.

26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra.

27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne’ tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa.

28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?

29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l’opera sua.

30 Io passai già presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell’uomo scemo di senno;

31 Ed ecco, amendue erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.

32 Ed io, riguardando ciò, vi posi mente; Vedutolo, ne presi ammaestramento.

33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;

34 La tua povertà verrà come un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere.

INTRODUCTION TO 1 KINGS 12

This chapter relates Rehoboam's going to Shechem to be made king, and Jeroboam's return from Egypt, 1Ki 12:1,2, the people's request to Rehoboam to be eased of their taxes, as the condition of making him king, 1Ki 12:3,4, his answer to them, after three days, having had the advice both of the old and young men, which latter he followed, and gave in a rough answer, 1Ki 12:5-15, upon which ten tribes revolted from him, and two abode by him, 1Ki 12:16-20, wherefore he meditated a war against the ten tribes, but was forbid by the Lord to engage in it, 1Ki 12:21-24 and Jeroboam, in order to establish his kingdom, and preserve the people from a revolt to the house of David, because of the temple worship at Jerusalem, devised a scheme of idolatrous worship in his own territories, 1Ki 12:25-33.
