Psalms 106:42

42 They were oppressed by their enemies and were in complete subjection to them.

Psalms 106:42 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 106:42

Their enemies also oppressed them
By taxes, and taking the increase of their fields and sustenance, which often obliged them to cry for a deliverer, who upon this was sent to them; see ( Judges 2:9 Judges 2:15 ) ( 5:1 ) .

And they were brought into subjection under their hand; or were humbled
under their hand, as the Targum;
they were not only made to submit to their enemies, but they were humbled before the Lord; brought to a sense of their sins, and acknowledgment of them, when the Lord appeared for their deliverance, as follows.

Psalms 106:42 In-Context

40 So the Lord was angry with his people; he was disgusted with them.
41 He abandoned them to the power of the heathen, and their enemies ruled over them.
42 They were oppressed by their enemies and were in complete subjection to them.
43 Many times the Lord rescued his people, but they chose to rebel against him and sank deeper into sin.
44 Yet the Lord heard them when they cried out, and he took notice of their distress.
