Jeremiah 50:30 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 50:30

Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets
Or "surely" F6; it is the form of an oath, according to Jarchi Cyrus, when he took Babylon, ordered proclamation to be made that the inhabitants should keep within doors; and that whoever were found in the streets should be put to death F7, as doubtless many were: and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord;
as Belshazzar and his guards were F8; see ( Daniel 5:30 ) ; compare with this ( Revelation 19:18 ) .

Jeremiah 50:30 In-Context

28 Listen! Fugitives and refugees from Babylon are coming to Zion to tell about the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance for his temple.
29 "Call together the archers, the soldiers with bows, against Babylon. Set up blockades around it. Don't let anyone escape. Pay the people of Babylon back for what they have done. Do to them what they did to others. They have disobeyed the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
30 That is why their young men will die in the streets, and all their soldiers will be silenced that day," declares the LORD.
31 "I'm against you, you arrogant city," declares the Almighty LORD of Armies. "Your day has come, the time when I will punish you.
32 Those arrogant people will stumble and fall, and there will be no one to help them get up. I will light a fire in their cities that will burn up everything around them."
