John 7:43

43 So the people were divided because of Jesus.

John 7:43 Meaning and Commentary

John 7:43

So there was a division among the people concerning him.
] Some, though they did not go so far as to believe him to be the Messiah, yet took him to be a prophet, and a very extraordinary one; others made no difficulty to assert him to be the Christ; and others objected to it on account of the country from whence he came, and so fulfilled the words of Christ, ( Luke 12:51 ) .

John 7:43 In-Context

41 Other people said, "This man is the Messiah." Still other people asked, "How can the Messiah come from Galilee?
42 Doesn't Scripture say that the Messiah will come from the descendants of David and from the village of Bethlehem, where David lived?"
43 So the people were divided because of Jesus.
44 Some of them wanted to arrest him, but they couldn't.
45 When the temple guards returned, the chief priests and Pharisees asked them, "Why didn't you bring Jesus?"
