1 Samuel 26:18

And he said, wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his
servant?
&c.] Suggesting that it was both below him to do it, and against his interest; for David was his servant, and he would gladly have continued in his service, and done his business, but he drove him from it, and pursued him as a traitor, when he had not been guilty of any offence to his knowledge: and therefore puts the following questions:

for what have I done? or what evil [is] in mine hand?
what crime had he committed, that he was pursued after this manner, and his life sought for? what had he done worthy of death? having a clear conscience, he could boldly ask these questions.

16 Esto que has hecho, no está bien. Vive el SEÑOR, que sois dignos de muerte, que no habéis guardado a vuestro señor, al ungido del SEÑOR. Mira, pues, ahora dónde está la lanza del rey, y la botija del agua que estaba a su cabecera

17 Y conociendo Saúl la voz de David, dijo: ¿No es ésta tu voz, hijo mío David? Y David respondió: Mi voz es, rey señor mío

18 Y dijo: ¿Por qué persigue así mi señor a su siervo? ¿Qué he hecho? ¿Qué mal hay en mi mano

19 Ruego, pues, que el rey mi señor oiga ahora las palabras de su siervo. Si el SEÑOR te incita contra mí, huela él el olor del sacrificio; mas si fueren hijos de hombres, malditos sean ellos en presencia del SEÑOR, que me han echado hoy para que no me junte en la heredad del SEÑOR, diciendo: Ve y sirve a dioses ajenos

20 No caiga, pues, ahora mi sangre en tierra delante del SEÑOR; porque ha salido el rey de Israel a buscar una pulga, así como quien persigue una perdiz por los montes
