2 Samuel 12:21

Then said his servants unto him, what thing [is] this that
thou hast done?
&c.] Or what is the reason of such conduct and behaviour? they knew what was done, but they did not know the meaning of it, which is what they inquired after:

thou didst fast and weep for the child, [while it was] alive;
prayed with fasting and weeping for it, that it might live and not die:

but when the child was dead thou didst rise and eat bread;
and appeared cheerful; this seemed strange to them, when they expected his sorrow would be increased.

19 Mas David viendo a sus siervos hablar entre sí, entendió que el niño había muerto; por lo que dijo David a sus siervos: ¿Ha muerto el niño? Y ellos respondieron: Ha muerto

20 Entonces David se levantó de tierra, y se lavó y se ungió, y mudó sus ropas, y entró a la Casa del SEÑOR, y adoró. Y después vino a su casa, y demandó, y le pusieron pan, y comió

21 Y le dijeron sus siervos: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Por el niño, viviendo aún, ayunabas y llorabas; y él muerto, te levantaste y comiste pan

22 Y él respondió: Viviendo aún el niño, yo ayunaba y lloraba, diciendo: ¿Quién sabe si Dios tendrá misericordia de mí, de manera que viva el niño

23 Mas ahora que ya ha muerto, ¿para qué he de ayunar? ¿Podré yo hacerle volver? Yo voy a él, mas él no volverá a mí
