38 Ya los israelitas estaban concertados con los hombres de las emboscadas, que hicieran una señal, haciendo subir gran humo de la ciudad

Judges 20:38

Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and
the liers in wait
Or an appointed time ^F26 as the Targum; so Kimchi and Abarbinel. There was a time fixed, at which the men of Israel proposed to be at Baaltamar, exactly when the Benjaminites would be drawn at a proper distance from the city, and then the liers in wait were to break forth, and rush upon it, and enter it:

and that they should make a great flame with smoke to rise up out of
the city;
set it on fire, and cause the fire to burn fiercely, that there might be a large ascent of flame and smoke to be seen afar off; which, when the men of Israel saw, they would know the city was taken.

36 Y vieron los hijos de Benjamín que eran derrotados; pues los hijos de Israel habían dado lugar a Benjamín, porque estaban confiados en las emboscadas que habían puesto detrás de Gabaa

37 Entonces los hombres de las emboscadas acometieron prontamente a Gabaa, y se extendieron, y pasaron a espada toda la ciudad

38 Ya los israelitas estaban concertados con los hombres de las emboscadas, que hicieran una señal, haciendo subir gran humo de la ciudad

39 Luego, pues, que los de Israel volvieron la espalda en la batalla, y los de Benjamín habían comenzado a derribar heridos de Israel unos treinta hombres, de tal manera que ya decían: Ciertamente ellos han caído delante de nosotros, como en la primera batalla

40 Mas cuando la señal comenzó a subir de la ciudad en columna de humo, Benjamín tornó a mirar atrás; y he aquí que toda la ciudad había sido consumida y el humo subía al cielo
