Zechariah 1:5

Your fathers, where [are] they?
&c.] They are not in the land of the living; they perished by the sword of the Chaldeans, or died in captivity: and the prophets, do they live for ever?
meaning either the false prophets, as Hananiah and Shemaiah, ( Jeremiah 28:17 ) ( 29:32 ) or the true prophets of the Lord; and the words may be considered as a prevention of an objection the people might make, taken from their prophets dying in common with their fathers; and so the Targum paraphrases them, "and if you should say, the prophets, do they live for ever?" which is followed by Jarchi, and embraced by many interpreters: the answer is, it is true they died; but then their words live, and have had their full accomplishment.

3 Les dirás pues: Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Volveos a mí, dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, y yo me volveré a vosotros, dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos

4 No seáis como vuestros padres, a los cuales dieron voces los primeros profetas, diciendo: Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Volveos ahora de vuestros malos caminos, y de vuestras malas obras: y nunca oyeron, ni me atendieron, dijo el SEÑOR

5 Vuestros padres, ¿dónde están? Y los profetas, ¿han de vivir para siempre

6 Pero mis palabras y mis ordenanzas que mandé a mis siervos los profetas, ¿no alcanzaron a vuestros padres? Por eso se volvieron ellos del cautiverio y dijeron: Como el SEÑOR de los ejércitos pensó tratarnos conforme a nuestros caminos, y conforme a nuestras obras, así lo hizo con nosotros

7 A los veinticuatro del mes undécimo, que es el mes de Sebat, en el año segundo de Darío, vino palabra del SEÑOR a Zacarías profeta, hijo de Berequías, hijo de Iddo, diciendo
