1 ThenJesussixdaysbefore the passovercametoBethany,whereLazaruswaswhich had been dead , whom he raisedfrom the dead.
2 Theretheymadehim a supper;andMarthaserved : butLazaruswasone of them that sat at the table with him.
3 ThentookMary a pound of ointment of spikenard*, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus,andwipedhisfeet with herhair:and the house was filledwith the odour of the ointment.
5 Whywasnotthisointmentsold for three hundredpence,andgiven to the poor?
6 This he said , notthathecaredfor the poor;butbecause he was a thief,andhad the bag,andbare what was put therein .
7 ThensaidJesus,Letheralone : against the day of myburying hath she keptthis.
8 For the pooralways ye havewithyou;butme ye havenotalways.
9 Muchpeopleof the Jewsthereforeknewthat he wasthere:and they camenotforJesus' sake only,butthat they might seeLazarusalso,whom he had raisedfrom the dead.
10 But the chief priestsconsultedthat they might putLazarusalso to death ;
11 Because that by reason of himmany of the Jews went away , andbelievedonJesus.
