Ezekiel 10:9 Meaning and Commentary

Ezekiel 10:9

And when I looked, behold, the four wheels by the cherubim,
&c.] The churches by the ministers: of these "wheels", and why the churches are so called, and of their number "four", and their situation "by" the cherubim, (See Gill on Ezekiel 1:15); one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub:
a minister to a church; every church has its own pastor, elder, or overseer, by it, and over it: and the appearance of the wheels [was] as the colour of a beryl stone;
a precious stone of a sea green; (See Gill on Ezekiel 1:16). The Targum renders it in general, "a precious stone"; the Septuagint version, "a carbuncle"; and the Vulgate Latin version, "a chrysolite".

Ezekiel 10:9 In-Context

7 Then the cherub stretched out his hand from among the cherubim toward the fire that [was] among the cherubim, and he lifted up and gave [it] into the hollow of the hand of [the man] clothed with linen, and he took [it], and he went out.
8 And [there] appeared for the cherubim [the] form of {a human hand} under their wings.
9 And I saw, and look, four wheels beside the cherubim, {one wheel beside each cherub}, and the appearance of the wheels [was] like [the] outward appearance of {turquoise stone}.
10 Their appearance {was the same for each of the four of them}, as if the wheel was in the midst of a wheel.
11 {When they went} to the four of their directions [that] they went, they did not change direction {when they went}, for the place [to] which the head turned, they went behind him; they did not change direction at their going.
