Numbers 33:40

40 Now the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who [was] living in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the {Israelites}.

Ver. 40-44. And King Arad the Canaanite
Or the king of Arad the Canaanite:

which dwelt in the land of Canaan, he heard of the coming of the
children of Israel;
towards the land of Canaan, in order to possess it, and he came out and fought with them, and was vanquished; see ( Numbers 21:1-3 ) , this was when Israel was at Mount Hor; from whence they departed to Zalmonah, twenty eight miles from the mount; and from thence to Punon, which was twenty more; and so to Oboth, which was twenty four miles from Punon: and thence

to Ijeabarim, in the border of Moab,
which was sixteen miles, see ( Numbers 21:9-11 ) .

38 Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the {command} of Yahweh, and he died there in the fortieth year after the {Israelites} had gone out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month on the first [day] of the month.
39 Aaron was one hundred and twenty-three years old when he died on Mount Hor.
40 Now the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who [was] living in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the {Israelites}.
41 Then they set out from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah.
42 They set out from Zalmonah and camped at Punon.
