Psalms 35:23 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 35:23

Stir up thyself and awake
Who seemed to be asleep in the apprehensions of the psalmist, and to take no notice of his distresses, and the insults of his enemies; see ( Psalms 44:23 ) ; he adds,

to my judgment, [even] to my cause;
that is, to plead it and maintain it, and avenge him of his enemies, as in ( Psalms 35:1 ) ; making use of his covenant interest in him as a plea for it to engage him to do it, saying,

my God, and my Lord;
see ( Psalms 22:1 ) .

Psalms 35:23 In-Context

21 They also made wide their mouths against me. They said, "Aha! Aha! Our eyes have seen [it]."
22 You have seen, O Yahweh. Do not be deaf. O Lord, do not be far from me.
23 Wake up and rouse yourself for my right, for my cause, O my God and my Lord.
24 Vindicate me according to your righteousness, O Yahweh my God, and do not let them rejoice over me.
25 Do not let them say in their hearts, "Aha, our desire." Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up."
