Psalms 38:14

14 And [so] I am like a man who hears not, and in whose mouth there are no retorts.

Psalms 38:14 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 38:14

Thus I was as a man that heareth not
Any thing that is said unto him; he took no more notice of it than if he had never heard it; but bore all the railings and calumnies of men with calmness and patience;

and in whose mouth [are] no reproofs;
as if he had nothing to say for himself, in vindication of his character, and to the refutation of his enemies; as if he had no arguments to make use of, for the conviction and reproof of his adversaries.

Psalms 38:14 In-Context

12 Those who seek my life lay snares as well, and those intent on my harm speak threats. They also plot deceit all day.
13 But as for me, like [the] deaf I cannot hear, and [I am] like [the] mute [who] cannot open his mouth.
14 And [so] I am like a man who hears not, and in whose mouth there are no retorts.
15 Rather for you I wait, O Yahweh. You will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, "[Help,] lest they rejoice over me, [lest] they boast against me when my foot slips."
