11 Mais Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il ici aucun prophète de l'Eternel, par qui nous puissions consulter l'Eternel? L'un des serviteurs du roi d'Israël répondit: Il y a ici Elisée, fils de Schaphath, qui versait l'eau sur les mains d'Elie.

2 Kings 3:11

But Jehoshaphat said, is there not here a prophet of the Lord,
that we may inquire of the Lord by him?
&c.] This the good king should have done before be set out, but had neglected it; however, it was not too late:

and one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said;
who might be one that feared the Lord, and was intimate with Elisha, or however had knowledge of him, as appears by what follows:

here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of
Elijah;
or ministered to him, as the Targum; was his menial servant, waited on him, and assisted him when he washed his hands ^F7; some Jewish writers understand it of his pouring water on the hand of Elijah at Carmel, when the altar and trench were filled with it, and when a miracle was wrought, as they fancy, and the fingers of Elijah became as fountains of water.

9 Le roi d'Israël, le roi de Juda et le roi d'Edom, partirent; et après une marche de sept jours, ils manquèrent d'eau pour l'armée et pour les bêtes qui la suivaient.

10 Alors le roi d'Israël dit: Hélas! l'Eternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab.

11 Mais Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il ici aucun prophète de l'Eternel, par qui nous puissions consulter l'Eternel? L'un des serviteurs du roi d'Israël répondit: Il y a ici Elisée, fils de Schaphath, qui versait l'eau sur les mains d'Elie.

12 Et Josaphat dit: La parole de l'Eternel est avec lui. Le roi d'Israël, Josaphat et le roi d'Edom, descendirent auprès de lui.

13 Elisée dit au roi d'Israël: Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi? Va vers les prophètes de ton père et vers les prophètes de ta mère. Et le roi d'Israël lui dit: Non! car l'Eternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab.
