Genesis 48:3 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 48:3

And Jacob said unto Joseph
Being come into his bedchamber, and sitting by him, or standing before him: God Almighty appeared unto at Luz in the land of Canaan;
the same with Bethel, where God appeared, both at his going to Padanaram, and at his return from thence, ( Genesis 28:11-19 ) ( 35:6-12 ) ; which of those times is here referred to is not certain; very likely he refers to them both, since the same promises were made to him at both times, as after mentioned: and blessed me;
promised he would bless him, both with temporal and spiritual blessings, as he did as follows.

Genesis 48:3 In-Context

1 Some time after this conversation, Joseph was told, "Your father is ill." He took his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, and went to Jacob.
2 When Jacob was told, "Your son Joseph has come," he roused himself and sat up in bed.
3 Jacob said to Joseph, "The Strong God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me.
4 He said, 'I'm going to make you prosperous and numerous, turn you into a congregation of tribes; and I'll turn this land over to your children coming after you as a permanent inheritance.'
5 I'm adopting your two sons who were born to you here in Egypt before I joined you; they have equal status with Reuben and Simeon.
